McNally Jackson Presents PATHEMATA with Maggie Nelson
Pathemata, Or, The Story of My Mouth, is an experiment in interiority written in the pandemic studio.
Something of a companion piece to 2009’s Bluets, Pathemata merges a pain diary chronicling a decade of jaw pain with dreams and dailies, eventually blurring the lines between embodied, unconscious, and everyday life. In scrupulously distilled prose, Pathemata offers a tragicomic portrait of a particularly unnerving and isolating moment in recent history, as well as an abiding account of how it feels to inhabit a mortal body in struggle to connect with others.

Bread & Puppet Theater
Puppet show! Puppet show! Bread & Puppet Theater is excited to announce our spring tour, traveling from Vermont down the Eastern Seaboard. Of our latest show, The Obligation to Live, director Peter Schumann reminds us that, “The obligation to be alive and act against the actors of death is just one of humanity’s many obligations. We also have the obligation to courage and the obligation to plant garlic in the rubble of the empire. Possibilitarians know this and bring giants, dragons, horses, sheep, butterflies, and the exact dance of death required for this exact moment.”
After the show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli, and Bread & Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books, posters, postcards, pamphlets and banners from the Bread & Puppet Press – will be for sale.

American Bible: The Constitution as Sacred Text
Religion and the Constitution have a long and complex relationship. Those who drafted the Constitution and its amendments had varied and nuanced understandings of religion, which influenced their views of governance, liberty, and equality.
So when proponents of originalism argue that constitutional interpretation must follow its so-called original meaning, are they engaging with that nuance? Or have they replaced it with a politically motivated just-so story to promote a regressive and antidemocratic social agenda?
Join us at a live in-person event at Judson Memorial Church at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, for a timely discussion on the role religion has played in shaping originalist thought, as well as alternative approaches to understanding the Constitution and our relationship to it.
