The Future of a Landmark

For the last four seasons Judson Memorial Church engaged in a multi-phase capital campaign. The campaign focused on preservation, sustainability, and accessibility for the historic Stanford White building anchoring the southern end of Washington Square.

The first phase completed key preservation efforts by repointing the iconic terra-cotta exterior, as well as protecting and restoring interior elements in their original form.

The second phase, completed last year, replaced the aging asphalt roof with red clay tile that not only restores the original appearance of the building, but ensures the structure is protected from the elements for a century to come.

Next Steps

2021 was to be the culmination of these efforts including a broad community appeal for help in replacing the aging ADA lift with a proper elevator. It’s safe to say when we began this process we had no idea that 2020 would be turn out to be such an interesting and urgent time. For now our focus is on the safety of the many communities Judson serves, and our shared vision for an equitable future.
