Our children come from a variety of backgrounds: straight and gay parents, interracial parents, interfaith parents, adoptive parents, parents from strong church backgrounds, and parents from no church experience. What they share in common is parents who are seeking a progressive church education for their children. Parents believe strongly that the curriculum should address teaching children our sacred story as well as acknowledging the questions that arise, so they can be faithful witnesses of God's love in our world. Diversity, whether religious, sexual, or racial, demands a thoughtful and deliberate interpretation of Scripture, tradition, and practice. Our teachers and congregation welcome the opportunity to be a part of that interpretation and the living out of that belief.
Sunday School at Judson is held during church services. Because of this structure we are vigilant about creating opportunities in the main worship services in which children can participate. Children worship "upstairs" the first Sunday of each month.
Those charged with teaching, planning and execution of the Sunday School program are the committee, the church school director, and the teachers. Our director, Andy Frantz, has been with us for 14 years. Currently, he administers the program, teaches one of the classes, and also leads the Sunday School music program. We have four paid teachers and a supporting committee of six Judson participants. The committee meetings are open to all parents.
The Sunday School is currently divided into three groups: preschool, elementary and middle school/high school. Classes meet in newly renovated spaces attached to the church offices. Children worship "upstairs" the first Sunday of each month.
Child Care: Care for children younger than twelve is wrapped into Sunday School during Sunday worship but is also offered during congregational meetings and for many special events.
