In January 2010, the the New York New Sanctuary Movement mobilized to prevent the immediate deportation of Haitian immigrant Jean Montrevil, the father of one of its “Sanctuary Families” and a member of Judson Church.
Photographer Mizue Aizeki (and other contributors) captured powerful images from that extraordinary time of protest, political expression, and celebration, now compiled by Jean in a new book - Free Jean Campaign, January 2010.
From the Varick detention jail protests in Greenwich Village, to Jean's welcome home celebration, to the immigration reform marches in Washington, D.C., Free Jean Campaign is a unique chronicle of a man, his family, and the movement that works to keep them together.
